NORFOLK -- Lawyers for two Waterside restaurant/bars met with city attorneys Friday for court-ordered mediation.
A city attorney said talks were productive and both sides agreed to a 60-day hold on any litigation to see if further mediation can resolve the dispute.
The city padlocked Bar Norfolk and Have A Nice Day Cafe last month after they defied orders to stop serving alcohol.
The bar owners said they did not deserve to lose their city liquor permits even though the city said the establishments racked up a number of safety violations.
City Council members revoked the city permits that allowed the businesses to sell alcohol.
The bars and the city are now hashing out the issue in court.
If Friday's mediation efforts do not bring resolution, a judge is scheduled to consider the case Oct. 7.
Meantime, the state Alcohol Beverage Control Board's investigation is continuing.
