Got ODU football tickets?
If not, you’re not alone. And you’re probably not in luck.
Tickets for Saturday’s ODU vs. Chowan game are sold out. No student seats, no box seats, nothing. So, in a scramble to get into the school’s first football matchup since 1940, some folks have turned to Internet sites such as Craigslist, StubHub and eBay.
But even there, few tickets are being advertised.
A search of eBay and StubHub on Thursday afternoon turned up nothing, and few ads on Craigslist were offering tickets.
However, dozens of people were looking to buy tickets - either for money or a trade.
One seller, “cucyz-1356121923” was offering a ticket to Saturday’s game at the box office price of $20. Another advertiser offered two tickets for $100.
One person posted an ad seeking two game tickets and offered an “even trade” of four tickets to two separate concerts at the Verizon Wireless Virginia Beach Amphitheater.
Yet another advertiser, listed as a “poor student,” sought to trade his student ticket for two guest tickets.
David Bisset, who said he was a 2005 Old Dominion University graduate, said he’d been running ads trying to buy tickets “for about a week now” with no luck.
At this point, he probably won’t be able to attend the game with friends, he said. “I’d love to see it, but we’ll see,” Bisset said.
Mike Cotterell, a junior at ODU, at first posted an ad to sell a student ticket and a guest ticket at a negotiable price. But before noon on Thursday, Cotterell had changed his mind: He promised the tickets to friends at Chowan.
Cotterell had been a student at Chowan and transferred to ODU to finish a degree in physical education, he said Thursday. He had camped outside the Ted Constant Convocation Center with friends and managed to get close enough to the front of the line to get both passes.
He’ll attend the game with a guest ticket that one of his friends got at the Ted Constant Center.
And all of his friends – from ODU and Chowan – will attend Saturday’s game together, he said.
“They’ll probably be the only ones from Chowan in the (ODU) student section,” Cotterell said. “There will probably be some animosity, but it’s all in good fun.”
